Marie LESZCZYNSKA Queen of France
Queen of France born 23 June 1703 in Breslau, Silesia and died 24 June 1768 in Versailles, France.
Marie was the daughter of Stanislas Leszczynski, who had been placed on the throne of Poland. Stanislas was chased from power in 1709. In 1725, he lived on charity at the French court in Wissembourg. Marie Leszczynski was chosen to be the wife of Louis XV among 99 princessses of marrying age. The decision in her favour was an attempt by the Duke of Bourbon to ensure his power. He chose Marie because she was poor, believing that she would help him control the King. Marie had ten children and gave an heir to the throne. Louis XV preferred the company of his mistresses and Marie was not included in the daily activities of the Royal Court. Contrary to Louis, who was bored by everything, the Queen loved music, painted a litte, embroidered and played the guitar and harpsichord. She died in 1768 at the age of 65 years.
